After the Bell Safety Consultation
Creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and connected.
Service Description
Safety is a shared commitment. The After the Bell Safety Consultation supports OUSD afterschool programs in building thoughtful, clear, and responsive site safety plans that honor the wellbeing of students, staff, and the surrounding community. We take a preventative and community-centered approach. Through observation, collaborative discussion, and planning sessions with site leadership and program staff, we identify strengths, clarify safety expectations, and co-design actions that promote emotional safety, physical safety, and positive group culture. This is not a compliance-only check. It is a process of nurturing environments where youth feel grounded, cared for, and confident. The work focuses on creating routines and practices that help students recognize and use their own power to take care of themselves and others. Key areas of support: • Reviewing and strengthening existing site safety plans • Establishing shared language for safety and care • Clarifying communication pathways among staff • Designing youth-friendly behavior expectations and group agreements • Planning responses to emotional escalation or conflict in ways that protect dignity • Developing smooth transitions and hallway/outdoor movement routines • Identifying environmental risks and supportive modifications Outcome: A clear, youth-centered site safety plan that is practical, aligned with school culture, and ready to implement.
